Church, the Met, and Frozen Hot Chocolate

Sunday in New York was another splendid day. We started off the day by heading to church. We were able to see the Manhattan Temple and one of my mission companions! Oh how lovely it was to see her! and the temple!

After church we headed towards Central Park again and had lunch at the Shake Shack. Then we walked through the park to the Met. Oh what a lovely place! We walked around the museum for almost 5 hours! We loved seeing all the different kinds of art. Van Gogh, Monet, and Rembrandt were some of our favorites. It is magical in there. You could spend days.

On our way back to the hotel we stopped at the cutest little shop that Lorina recommended to get macaroons. I had never had a macaroon, and I was shocked at how much such a little cookie cost, but they were SO adorable and classy! And YUM! I loved all the cool unique flavors and I wanted to go back and buy like 100 more. After eating dessert first we headed to dinner at Virgils BBQ. After walking so much we were exhausted so we headed back to the hotel. It was only 7:00pm but I was way tired. We sat down to watch some of the NBA finals and I fell asleep. Lame I know.

But I woke up around 9 and we decided to go out for a second dessert. FROZEN HOT CHOCOLATE! Seriously, it.is.so.good. I could chug gallons of that stuff. If you ever get a chance to go to Serendipity and try it, do it. You won't be disappointed. I'm not sure if Joey liked it quite as much as me, but he gobbled his up too so I don't think he hated it. :)

Another day in New York over, and one more to go.

Central Park, Matilda, and the Highline

Day 2 in New York was MAGICAL. I woke up on a Broadway high so I looked up tickets to see the new Broadway show Matilda on a wim. It is a favorite childhood movie of Joey and I's so we thought it would be fun to see. We found some really great tickets for a matinee so we booked them! 

Before the play we had planned to go to Central Park so we headed out from our hotel. It wasn't a far walk and we stopped at a little deli and got some bagels and fruit. We ate our food on a park bench while we people watched. So fun. Then we strolled around the park hand in hand enjoying the scenery. What a beautiful place!

I have always wanted to go on the row boats in central park. We were planning on going but then realized we didn't have enough cash on us. Rookie mistake Stuarts. So we enjoyed the park form the land instead.

Then we headed back to the theater district to pick up our tickets and head to the show. We under estimated how far away it was from Central Park and we also got a little lost... so we were pretty sweaty and cutting it close to getting to the show on time. Luckily things worked out and we made it to the show! We had great seats and the show was really well done. I was so impressed by the kids singing and dancing. Also, Miss Trunchbull was played by a man dressed as a women and he was HILARIOUS. He did an amazing job. The songs were great and they did a good job. It was a more intimate feel then Wicked and not quite as grand but I liked it.

After the show we enjoyed our first pizza of the trip. SO GOOD. I love pizza! Especially New York style.

And then... if the day wasn't already perfect, we headed to the Highline! It is an old railroad track that has been turned into a beautiful pathway/garden. Lorina introduced me last year when I was in New York with her and I fell in love. I was so excited to show Joey. We ate some scrupulous gelato from Chelsea Market and strolled along the Highline. It was the perfect ideal weather. There were so.many.people, but it is New York and that kind of made me feel as if we were sharing this special experience with all of them. We were there at the perfect timing and were able to see a beautiful sunset!

Perfect end to a perfect day! And the fun only continues the next day...

First Day in New York

Finally finding time to blog about our fabulous trip to New York City! There are a lot of pictures so I am doing it in installments.

Joey and I have both wanted to go to New York together for a while so we decided to plan a weekend trip when we were still so close. We flew in from Utah Thursday night and then bright and early Friday  we caught a bus from DC to New York. It is about a 4 hour bus ride. Not to bad. 

We scored a great deal on a hotel right near the theater district. It was a perfect location for us. Plus it was a Doubletree, yummy cookies! 

We got there early afternoon so we decided to do a little exploring. I love walking around the streets of New York City and looking at all the sites. We strolled down 5th avenue and walked through St. Patrick's cathedral. It was beautiful. 

We then headed home and got all dolled up to go see my first Broadway play, WICKED! Joey has been before but I have always wanted to see it so he got me tickets for my birthday. As we were walking to the show it started sprinkling. We bought an umbrella from a street cart just in case and as soon as we had it in our hand it started pouring! That umbrella saved us. :) We ate at this adorable Thai restaurant with delicious food, right in the theater district.  

After dinner the rain had stopped and we had a little time left before the show so we walked around Time Square. 

Then it was time for the show! I just felt so giddy to be walking around New York City and going to a Broadway show with my best friend. The show did not disappoint! I LOVED it! The lights, the music, the singing, the dancing, everything! Not only is it a very well done show, I also just love the whole story line. Galinda is definitely my favorite part.  

After the show I was on cloud nine. The fun didn't stop there. On our walk home we ran across even more fun places and things to see. New York City at night is magical!
